While it works

Watch every step, add to what you asked, or stop it. Choose whether costly, long or repetitive work pauses to check spending.

Activity

Every request is a card in the Activity panel beside the chat (a sheet on a phone). It shows the status, each step your helper took in plain words, anything you added while it worked, and a short result for each step: the top links from a search, pass or fail from a command, the files it made, "3 flights from $211". The details are one tap away.

Add to it while it works

You don't have to wait. Send another message while your helper is working and it joins what it's doing: your helper reads it at the next step and gives one reply that covers everything. Texts work the same way.

Stop

A Stop button shows wherever a task is working: in the task header, in the message box (Send turns into Stop), on the Activity card and on the task's row. When two or more tasks are working, a pill offers Stop all. Stop ends it right away, keeps what's done, and the chat says "Stopped by you".

Runaway protection

Settings → General → Usage → Pause to check spending is on by default. With it on:

  • A request that runs long pauses on its own with a short report and Keep going / Stop here. It never runs far past that without your tap.
  • It also pauses early if it looks stuck: going in circles, reaching into 4 or more connected accounts in one request, or working about 10 minutes without replying.
  • A day can't use much more than its share of your month without checking in first.
  • You get one plain note when you pass 50% and 80% of the month's usage.
  • Tasks a plan starts work at most 3 at a time in a channel. The rest wait their turn.
  • Scheduled runs have nobody to tap Keep going, so they stop with a short report instead.

Turn it off only if you want work to continue without these spending pauses. That also turns off the daily safety limit and usage notices: work can use all available credits. Your balance still cannot go below zero, and purchases, permission checks and other approvals still apply. Changes affect active work at its next safe step; a task already paused needs Keep going once. Turning this off does not authorize unrelated work.

Settings → General shows the month's meter. Turn on Show estimated costs there to see about what each task has cost ("This task: about $0.03"). See Plans and usage.

Updates don't interrupt

We improve 1Helm often, and an update never kills running work. A chat, a scheduled run, a job that started from an app event, a background helper or a text reply picks up where it left off, in the same card, and a command running on its computer keeps going. Anything that sends or acts is never repeated blindly: your helper checks first, and a confirmation you already used can't be used twice.

Background helpers

For a separate job that can run by itself (research, a long check, a draft), your helper can start a background helper. It's still your helper, doing that piece in the background, and its result comes back to the task. Background helpers can read the web (and read, not change, your Gmail and Calendar) but can't buy, send, post or change anything, use the live browser or your saved logins, or message you. Each has its own Activity card with a Stop button.
