AI data privacy

Choose how AI providers may use your requests: Unrestricted, No Training or Zero Data Retention. Every plan has all three.

The three choices

You pick one during setup, and can change it any time in Settings → General → AI data privacy.

ChoiceWhat it means
Zero Data RetentionOnly AI providers with verified zero-data-retention coverage for your requests. This rules out some models and discounts.
No TrainingOnly providers that don't train on your requests. They may keep them for a limited time under their own policies, often up to 30 days. Some discounted models aren't available.
UnrestrictedAlso allows eligible providers that may keep requests or use them to improve and train AI models. This gives the widest choice of discounted models and can make your usage last longer.

Accounts that never chose are on Zero Data Retention.

How it's applied

  • Every AI request is checked against your choice before it's sent, including scheduled and background work. If no allowed provider is available, your helper stops and says so; nothing goes to a provider your choice doesn't allow.
  • The quick check that picks a model for each message, and small background chores (titles, summaries, hand-off notes), always use zero-data-retention providers.
  • Speech-to-text (dictation, Live notes, recordings) uses zero-data-retention providers.
  • A change applies to requests from then on. Requests already sent can't be recalled.
  • Requests can include your messages, attachments, memory and app information needed to answer you. This setting is about AI providers; 1Helm's own storage of your chats and your connected apps have their own policies (see Privacy).

With your own AI key

With Sign in with OpenRouter, your choice is passed to OpenRouter with each request, so only matching providers answer. If none of your chosen model's providers fit it, your helper tells you instead of switching models. With any other AI service, your choice can't be applied there: that service's own terms cover the AI part, and Settings says so.

This provider choice does not apply to the support and AI evaluation tools used under Share diagnostic data, which may include non-ZDR tools selected by 1Helm under their own terms. Diagnostic access requires its own email-confirmed permission; changing AI data privacy does not enable it. 1Helm does not sell your chats or files, use them for advertising, or itself train AI models on them.
