Tasks

Every request is a task: one conversation about one thing. Tasks show what your helper is doing, what's ready and what's waiting on you.

Starting a task

Press New (⌘ ⇧ O by default; Ctrl on Windows) and say what you need. Attach files with + (up to 50 MB each, 10 at a time), or tap the microphone to dictate.

Starting work from General

Ask in General to create a channel and start a task there, or to start work in an existing channel. Your helper sets up the channel first, starts the requested work with its initial checklist, and gives you a task link. You stay in the General conversation. Saving an empty task is different from starting work; say which you want.

The new task gets an actionable brief drawn from the relevant conversation, not just your last sentence. It carries your chosen account, preferences, constraints, corrections, progress and the next action, without forwarding secrets or unrelated asks. Your original request is kept separately as its source; the helper-written brief is not a new message from you or extra permission.

The task runs with that channel's own computer and normal login and approval controls. A sign-in in General does not mean the other channel's browser is signed in. Existing tasks cannot be moved between channels by these tools. For several separate jobs, use a plan.

Reviewing tasks across channels

In General, ask what is open in another channel or across your projects. Your helper can read saved task conversations and current checklists directly, even with personal-memory recall off. It should identify the channel and task, and say if part of the lookup was unavailable rather than claiming a complete list.

You can ask it to edit another task's checklist or mark requested items done. It reads the current list first and preserves unrelated items; reading or editing does not start that task or move this conversation. It does not resume old unfinished work just because it found it. These cross-channel tools are available in General, not from another project channel, and do not give the current channel access to another channel's files or computer.

Dictating a message

Words appear in the editable message box while you speak. You can correct text while listening, and pauses do not end dictation: tap Stop when finished. Review the words and press Send yourself; dictation never sends a message automatically. Audio is transcribed, not saved. This is separate from Live notes, and is not a voice conversation with spoken replies.

Task states

StateWhat it means
Waiting on youIt has a question, a plan or a request for your OK, or it handed you the browser.
WorkingYour helper is on it right now.
Ready for youIt has finished its part. Take a look.
WatchingIt has scheduled checks running, like a price watch.

The task list is grouped the same way, so what needs you is always on top.

Only you mark it done

Your helper doesn't mark your tasks done. When you're happy, use Mark done in the task header. (In General, it can mark one done for you if you ask.) Pin a task to keep it at the top, handy for an ongoing project like a trip.

Inside a task

  • Reply and copy: hover over any message (or long-press on a phone) to Copy it or Reply to it. A reply pins a quote above the text box, and your helper knows exactly which message you mean.
  • To-dos: for work with several steps, your helper keeps a checklist (the "3/7" button in the header). It marks the step it's on; you tick items off.
  • Activity: every request gets a card with the steps your helper took, each with a short result in plain words. See While it works.
  • Live notes: turn any task into meeting notes. See Live notes.
  • Reactions: your helper may put a ❤️ or 👍 on your message, like a tapback.
  • Interview me: say "interview me" or "ask me what you need to know" and it shows a short set of tap-to-answer questions right in the chat.
  • Focus timer: tap the tomato for a pomodoro (25/5, 50/10, 15/3 or your own). Choose This task or Everything (global). The global timer stays with you across tasks and channels; only one global timer runs at a time. A ring counts down, and a break screen tells you when to rest. You can customize its start, pause/resume and stop shortcuts.

Send later

Tap the clock in the message box, pick a time, and your message goes into the task then, as if you'd sent it at that moment, even with your device off. Everything waiting to send is listed under Scheduled → Send later, where you can change the time, send it now or cancel.

Deleting a task

Use ⋯ on the task row or in the task header. A deleted task is gone for good, with its messages and anything your helper learned only there.
