FAQ
Questions, answered.
The basics
What is 1Helm?
1Helm gives you a helper that remembers how you work and has a computer of its own. You can ask it to do real things, like pay a bill, book an appointment, update a spreadsheet or plan a trip, and it gets them done while you get on with your day.
How is this different from a chatbot?
A chatbot answers questions. A 1Helm helper does the work: it has its own browser to sign in, fill out forms and download files, it works inside apps like Google Sheets and Canva, it keeps going when you close the app, and it remembers what it learned last time.
Do I need to be good with computers?
No. If you can text, you can use 1Helm. You ask in plain words, the way you'd ask a person.
What's a channel?
A channel is one part of your life, like Home, Money or your business. It's the same helper in every channel, kept focused on that one thing, with its own notes, files and computer. Start with General. Add more when a topic keeps coming up.
Is there a phone or desktop app?
Not in the app stores yet. 1Helm is a web app that works in any modern browser, with a layout made for phones and tablets. Tap Install 1Helm app in Settings (or add it to your home screen) and it opens like an app, with notifications. See Install the app.
How do I sign in?
With your email. There are no passwords: we email you a 6-digit code and a link, and either one signs you in. See Signing in.
Is there a free trial?
Which AI does it use?
1Helm picks the right model for each message by the kind of work (everyday help, research, apps, files, technical work), within your AI data privacy choice. If a model is unavailable, another one your choice allows takes over. With your own AI key, it uses yours.
What it can do
What can my helper actually do?
Errands (bills, renewals, bookings, returns), paperwork (forms, letters, receipts), research (search the web, compare, read the fine print, sum it up), work in your apps (Gmail, Calendar, Sheets, Docs, Canva and 1,500+ more), and anything that repeats on a schedule.
Can I give it a lot at once?
Yes. Pour out a brain dump and it splits it into separate tasks on a plan card for your OK, with any questions it needs answered first. See Plans and brain dumps.
Can it use websites that don't have an app connection?
Usually, yes. Its computer has a real browser, so it can use most websites the way you would. If a site needs a code sent to your phone, it hands the browser to you.
Can it make Word documents, slide decks and spreadsheets?
Yes. It makes Word documents, PDFs, slide decks, spreadsheets with working formulas and charts, CSV, Markdown and web pages, and fills in or edits ones you have. It checks each file before you get it. See Skills.
Can it book travel, restaurants or tickets?
Yes, on the airline's, hotel's, restaurant's or seller's own website. Before the final button it shows you the exact option, the total and the cancellation terms and waits for your yes. Payment goes through Link with your approval, up to $500 per purchase.
Can it do something when an email arrives?
Yes. Ask "when I get an email from Dana, save a summary to my notebook" and it runs only when that happens, on the account you choose. Pause, resume or stop it in Scheduled → When something happens. See When something happens.
Can I teach it how I like something done?
Yes. Tell it once and it saves the rule in its Notebook. For a whole procedure, say "save this as a skill" and it keeps it for that channel. See Skills.
Can it look up flights, hotels and prices?
Yes. Live search covers flights, hotels, restaurants and places, Amazon, Walmart and other shopping, stocks, maps, Tripadvisor, news and more, with no sign-in. Answers come from real results, with a link to check. See Live search.
Can I send it files?
Yes, up to 50 MB each and 10 at a time, in the app or by text. Documents, spreadsheets, slide decks, PDFs (scanned ones too), pictures and recordings are read the moment they land, so your helper can answer about them right away. See Files are ready before you ask.
Can it make phone calls?
No. There's no built-in phone calling.
Does it work while I'm asleep?
Yes. Your helper works in the background on its own computer. Routines run on schedule, and the computer sleeps when there's nothing to do.
Can I stop it?
Any time. There's a Stop button wherever a task is working, and Stop all when several are. Long tasks also pause on their own and ask before going on.
Can it make mistakes?
Yes, like any assistant. Ordinary app work you request can run without another confirmation, so give it clear instructions and check important results. Payment and API-key operations keep protected approvals, and you can choose stricter permissions in Settings. Tell it when it's wrong and it'll remember.
Apps
How do apps connect?
Through Composio, the sign-in service 1Helm uses for apps. You sign in on each app's own page, and 1Helm never sees those passwords. More than 1,500 apps are available, about 120 of them in one click. See Connecting apps.
What's the difference between Managed and Self-managed?
Both are free and use Composio; the only difference is whose account. Managed runs on 1Helm's Composio account, with nothing to set up. Self-managed runs on your own free Composio account, where you can see and remove everything yourself. You pick when you sign up and can switch in Settings → Connected accounts. See Managed or Self-managed.
What doesn't work with Self-managed?
Three things: calling an app's own API, attaching Library files to app actions, and jobs that run when something happens in an app. Your helper offers another way, like a scheduled check.
Can it attach files or save them from my apps?
Yes. When requested, it can attach a Library file to an email or upload, and save files from your apps, like a Gmail attachment, to your Library, within your chosen permissions. Up to 25 MB per file. See Files and apps.
Where can I see every app?
On the Apps page: search by name or category, and see how each one connects and what your helper can do in it.
I have two Gmail accounts. Which one will it use?
The default one, unless you say otherwise. Add a note under each account ("my work email") and it picks the right one by itself; when it's unclear, it asks once and remembers.
Privacy and safety
Who can see my chats?
AI providers handle your helper's requests as your AI data privacy choice allows (Zero Data Retention by default). Optional Share diagnostic data lets 1Helm inspect filtered, retained records and evaluate them with support and AI tools it chooses, including non-ZDR tools under their own terms. It is off by default and requires email confirmation; your in-app AI data privacy setting does not apply to those tools, and filtering does not guarantee anonymity.
Can I choose how AI providers use my data?
Yes. In Settings → General → AI data privacy, pick Zero Data Retention, No Training or Unrestricted. Every plan has all three. See AI data privacy.
Do you sell my data or train AI on it?
1Helm does not sell your chats or files, use them for advertising, or itself train AI models on them. If you separately enable diagnostic sharing, support and AI tools selected by 1Helm may receive diagnostic information under their own terms, including any permitted model improvement or training. Your in-app AI data privacy setting does not govern those tools.
If I delete something, is it really gone?
Deleted chats, channels, notes and accounts cannot be recovered from your 1Helm workspace. If you opted into diagnostic sharing, information already received by support or AI tools remains subject to their retention and deletion practices; deleting your workspace does not by itself erase their copies.
Will it spend my money without asking?
No. Every purchase waits for your approval in Link, and the store gets a one-time card number. Your helper never sees your real card.
What is Sentinel?
A checkpoint outside the helper's computer, on by default. Every external web request from the computer must use HTTPS; saved keys remain behind stand-ins, and requests follow your permissions and Sentinel's automatic rules. See Sentinel.
Does 1Helm know where I am?
Only if you allow it. Then your helper gets a rough location (about 1 km), and 1Helm keeps only the latest one, with no history. Turn it off any time in Settings → Location & mic. See Location and microphone.
Where are my passwords kept?
In Settings → Passwords & keys, stored encrypted. Once saved, they can't be shown again, even to your helper. 1Helm types a password only into that site's own secure sign-in page.
Can I make it ask before everything?
Yes. Settings → Permissions has Standard, Careful (also asks before reading your email, calendar and files) and Locked down (also asks before using its computer or visiting websites).
Does it learn about me in the background?
Yes, quietly. Between conversations it adds the lasting things you said to memory, keeps the people you mention up to date in Contacts, and writes a nightly "How to work with you" note. Each item has to match your own words, and it never messages you. You can edit or delete any of it. See Background memory.
Can I make it forget something?
Yes. Say "forget that". It shows you what it holds about it and, after your yes, deletes it and doesn't learn it again.
Is it open source?
The open-source core deploys to your own Cloudflare account, with your own infrastructure and AI-provider costs. The core is AGPL-3.0-only; separately licensed cloud-feature components are disabled in public installs. See Open source and self-hosting.
Plans and billing
How much does it cost?
Four plans: Personal $30, Plus $50, Power $90 and Max $170 a month, with $20, $40, $80 and $160 of usage included. Or $10 a month with your own AI key. See Pricing.
What's included in the usage?
The AI's work and your helper's computer time, at what they cost us plus 15%. Every plan is its usage plus $10. Settings → General shows how much you've used.
What happens if I run out?
Work needs available credits. Add credits any time ($10, $25 or $50) or move up a plan. With Pause to check spending on, you get notices at 50% and 80% and costly, long or repetitive work can pause. Turn it off and work can use all available credits without those checks; purchases and other approvals still apply. See spending controls.
How much storage do I get?
Personal 100 GB, Plus 250 GB, Power 500 GB, Max 1 TB, and 100 GB on the own-key plan. Add more for $2/month per 100 GB.
Can I use my own AI key?
Yes. The Use your own AI key plan is $10 a month with 100 GB: your AI provider bills you for the AI, and the computer, web search and memory are paid from credits at cost plus 15%. Already on Personal, Plus, Power or Max? Add your key in Settings and pick one of two options: keep your plan and use your key only as a backup if your usage runs out before your plan renews, or switch to the $10 plan when your billing period ends. If you use OpenRouter, Sign in with OpenRouter sets it up without copying a key. Zero data retention doesn't cover the AI part while your own key is in use, unless you use Sign in with OpenRouter, which applies your AI data privacy choice. See Use your own AI key.
What if my storage fills up?
You get a notice at 80%. At 100%, new files can't be saved until you add storage ($2/month per 100 GB) or delete something. Reading and deleting always work, and nothing is ever deleted for you.
Can I change plans?
Any time, in Settings → General → Change plan. Upgrades start right away (you pay the difference). Downgrades start on your next bill.
Is there an annual plan?
No. All plans are monthly.
What happens if a payment fails?
1Helm becomes read-only right away until the payment is fixed: you can open the app, read everything and download your files, but your helper is paused. Your data is kept until the end of the period you paid for, then for 7 more days, and then it's permanently deleted. Pay any time before then and everything comes back. Fix it with Fix payment at the top of the app.
Can I cancel? Do you give refunds?
You can cancel any time in Settings → General. Your plan runs to the end of the period you've paid for, then your account and data are permanently deleted. There are no refunds. Questions: support@1helm.com.
Meetings and Bee
Can it take meeting notes?
Yes. Tap Live notes in any task and your helper writes the summary, decisions, action items and open questions as the meeting happens, from your microphone, a meeting tab (Meet, Zoom or Teams on the web) or your Bee. When you stop, the notes are saved to your Library under Meetings. About 5–12¢ an hour. See Live notes.
Does it record audio?
Only while you dictate or run Live notes, after you tap to start. The recording is turned into text and isn't stored as audio. Make sure everyone's OK with being recorded.
Does it work with Bee?
Yes. Connect your Bee account in Settings → Ambient, and finished conversations go into your helper's memory, Bee's facts about you show up in your Notebook for a quick yes or no, and Live notes can follow what Bee hears. See Bee.
Do I need to buy a Bee wearable?
No. Bee – Your Personal AI works on iPhone and Apple Watch. The Apple Watch app and Bee wearable sync to the same Bee account, so 1Helm gets the same conversations and facts from either. See how to connect Bee.
Will it remind me to take notes?
With Google Calendar or Outlook connected, about a minute before a meeting you get "Take notes?". Tap it and Live notes is ready to go.
Texting
Which phones work?
Texting works with US phone numbers. On an iPhone it's iMessage, with tappable cards and tapbacks. Android phones get plain text messages. You can always use the app in any browser too.
Why do I set up a separate texting account?
It's a free account with our texting partner that gives your helper a number that only answers you. Setup takes a few minutes, and no card is needed.
Can my family text my helper?
No. Texts only work from the number you set up, so nobody else can boss your helper around. Your helper can't text other people either.
Nothing matches that. Ask your helper, or email us.
