Connecting apps

Connect the apps you already use so your helper can work in them directly. Most connect in one click.

How to connect

  1. Open Apps (the grid icon, ⌘ ⇧ A), or Settings → Connected accounts → Browse all apps. Or just ask, and your helper shows a Connect card right in the chat.
  2. Sign in on the app's own page and allow access. 1Helm never sees that password.
  3. That's it. Your helper can use it in any task.

Connections go through Composio, the sign-in service 1Helm uses for apps. When you sign up you choose whose Composio account they run on: 1Helm's (Managed, the default) or your own (Self-managed). See Managed or Self-managed.

What's available

More than 1,500 apps. Browse them all on the Apps page, or in the app under Apps. Each one shows how it connects:

The Get to know you task asks which apps you use. Your helper then offers to connect one when it comes up (see Apps I use).

How your helper works in an app

  • The right action. Your helper looks up what the app can do in plain words. Along with the matching actions, Composio suggests a short plan and known pitfalls learned from many past runs of the same kind of job, so your helper picks the right action and avoids the usual mistakes. Names, emails, dates and other personal details are taken out of that lookup before it's sent.
  • One detail missing? It does the main part in the app and tells you plainly what's left ("I added the appointment; I couldn't set the 10-minute reminder"), instead of dropping the whole job.
  • The app's own API. When no action covers what's needed, your helper can call the app's own API directly, signed in as you. Ordinary requested reads and writes run directly; payment and API-key operations keep protected confirmation. Not available with Self-managed.
  • Files. It can attach a Library file to an app action (an email attachment, say) and save files from your apps, like a Gmail attachment or a Drive file, to your Library. See Files and apps.
  • When something happens. It can run a job each time something happens in an app, like a new email from someone. See When something happens.
  • No double sends. If an app is busy, nothing ran and your helper tries again later or tells you. If a change was sent but no answer came back, it never sends it again on its own: it checks the app first (is the email in Sent?) and tells you what it found.

Connected app first

When an app is connected, your helper uses it. That's what you connected it for. It won't switch to the website on its own, open that service's sign-in page or hand you the browser to type your password for it. It may offer the website as an option, and goes there only if you say so. A connected app and the browser are separate: connecting Gmail doesn't sign the browser in to gmail.com.

More than one account

Connect a work and a personal account of the same app: ask your helper ("connect my work Gmail too") and it shows a Connect another card right in the chat, or use Add another account on the app's page (or Add another in Settings → Connected accounts). Pick which one is the default. Your helper uses the default unless you name another ("check my personal email"). When it isn't clear which email or calendar you mean, it asks once and remembers your answer.

Account notes

Under each connected account, tap Add a note for your helper and write a line about it, up to 300 characters: "my work email; use for anything Tennis Channel". Your helper reads it, so a request that fits one account's note ("check my work stuff") goes there without asking. When you tell your helper what an account is for, it saves the note for you. Edit or delete it any time; it's deleted when you disconnect that account.

Asking first

Your request authorizes ordinary reads, drafts, sends, edits, shares and deletions in your connected apps, subject to your chosen permissions. Connecting an app is not permission for unrelated work. Payment and API-key operations keep a protected confirm card. Your helper never acts because an email, a document or a web page told it to.

No connection? No problem

If an app isn't on the list, your helper can usually still use the website in its own browser. It just takes a little longer.

If you already run a compatible remote tool server, Custom MCP connections is an experimental alternative in Settings → Advanced, where available.

Expired connections

Connections can expire. When one does, your helper shows a Reconnect card in the chat, and Settings → Connected accounts shows Reconnect and Remove.

Disconnecting

Settings → Connected accounts → Disconnect, per account, or on the app's own page. After you confirm, your helper can't use that account any more. If it was the default, another connected account of that app becomes the default.
