The Zone

Open a deck, web page, report or Word document on a canvas next to the chat, point at part of it, and change it yourself or ask your helper to.

Opening a file

Choose Open in zone on a slide deck, web page, PDF report or Word document in the chat or the Library. The chat stays on the left, and the file is on a large canvas beside it. When your helper shares a file that opens in the Zone, an Open in editor card appears under its reply. If it shares several, the card opens the first one and a file chooser on the card picks another.

Point your helper at something

Click a part of the file, such as a slide, a text box, a picture or a paragraph of a Word document. It is outlined, and its name appears above the message box. Your next message tells your helper exactly which part you mean. In a report, you pick a whole page.

Change it yourself

  • Text: double-click it, or select it and press Enter, then type. In a Word document, double-click a paragraph and retype it. The change is saved into the Word file as a new version.
  • Pictures: drop a picture on a picture box in a deck or web page.
  • Look: change size, weight, colour, alignment, opacity and the slide background in the inspector.
  • Undo and redo: each change you make is saved as a new version of the file, and you can undo or redo it while the Zone is open.

The slide previews along the bottom show each slide fully drawn, and points and figures that a deck style left invisible are shown in the Zone and in Present. Opening Activity next to the Zone keeps the chat at a usable width.

Your helper's changes appear on the canvas as a new version of the same file, and the canvas shimmers while your helper works. If the file changed since you opened it, you see the latest version and your last change isn't saved. PDF reports can be read and pointed at, but only your helper changes them.
