# Contacts

> Your address book, shared by every channel, so “my sister” or “Dana” means the same person everywhere.

Section: Using 1Helm

## What a contact holds

A name, how they're related to you, other names they go by, a group (Family, Work, Friends, Services), several phone numbers and emails (labelled Personal, Work or Other, with one primary), a birthday, a photo and facts. When your helper learns about someone new, it adds them. [Background memory](https://1helm.com/docs/memory/background/) also keeps the people you talk about up to date.

## Import your address book

**Contacts → Import**, or drop a file on the page. It takes a vCard export from iPhone, iCloud, Android or Google, or a Google or Outlook CSV, up to 5,000 contacts. A preview shows who's new, who will be merged and who's skipped; untick anything, then import. A merge only fills in what's missing and never overwrites what you typed. The file is read in your browser and never uploaded.

## Duplicates and merging

When two contacts look like the same person, a **Possible duplicates** banner offers a one-tap merge, or "Not the same". You can also open a contact and choose **Merge**, pick the other contact, and choose what wins.

## Finding people

Search by name, number or email as you type. The people your helper knows best are on a shelf at the top, and big address books get A–Z sections with a letter rail.
