# Files and apps

> Your helper can attach your files to app actions and save files from your apps into your Library.

Section: Apps

## Files into an app

When an app action takes a file, like an email attachment or an upload to Drive or Slack, your helper can use a file from the channel's Library or one it made on its computer. Just name it: "email the March invoice PDF to Sam".

- Up to 25 MB per file, and up to 10 files per action.
- An email with an attachment can be sent as part of your request without another confirmation. Specify the intended recipient, content and file; stricter permissions still apply.
- Not available with [Self-managed](https://1helm.com/docs/apps/managed/) apps. Your helper offers another way, like a link to the file or the text itself.

## Files out of an app

When an app action returns a file, like a Gmail attachment or a Drive download, your helper saves it to the channel's [Library](https://1helm.com/docs/library/) and you see it as a download card in the chat, ready to open, share or download. Up to 25 MB per file, with Managed or Self-managed apps. Saved files count toward your storage like any other; if storage is full, nothing is saved and your helper tells you.

## Requested file work and permissions

Downloading, uploading, sending or replacing a file in an app can run as part of your request without another confirmation, subject to your chosen permissions. Payment and API-key operations remain protected.
